A weekly blogpost celebrating the work of current  Falmouth University students. Since starting this feature on my blog I'm delighted to announce I've been contacted by the University website team to help create a feature like this for the Falmouth website to show prospectus students the kind of work that is created by students at the Uni.  Rosie Fossett https://www.facebook.com/rosiefossettillustration/?pnref=story I chose to share this piece by Rosie (from one of her recent projects) because of how she has combined textures. I love the background as it adds an existing structure to the narrative and she has worked into using a variety of shapes which adds to a lively and exciting piece. I am inspired by a lot of illustrators at the moment and over the summer I'm going to work on small projects where I explore how narrative can be shown.  Sophie Melissa Walker//Illustration~ https://www.facebook.com/sophiemelissa.illustration/?fref=ts I first saw

Crafted in Cornwall

Since living in Cornwall for the past year and a half I've learned a lot about the creative community, local businesses and people whose living is made through crafts and making. I follow several of these people on Instagram as it is great to see people pursuing their passion for the hand made. http://www.sincerelymay.co.uk  Cathryn's work combines beautifully crafted lettering and colours which has been an influence in recent drawings where I am trying to incorporate writing into my reportage drawings to gain more of a sense of narrative for the particular scene I am trying to depict. Her work combines strong colours and personalised text which makes for an individual piece of stationary. I've chosen a couple of my favourite designs by her. The first because of how she has combined yellow, orange and below and the use of geometric shapes. The second being the use of dark blue and white where the contrast makes for a striking design. http://francli.co.uk

Artist Influence//Emma Paterson

Emma is on the BA Drawing course with me at Falmouth. When we went to the Scilly Isles it was a chance to get to see how everyone observed the world. We were lucky and got the chance to draw for the whole week outside. Something I will never forget. Emma's work has been a huge influence on me this year, her sensitivity to line to create emotive narratives is something that I struggle within my own practice. The personality of her mark-making is calming and unique in being able to capture the subject matter.  Some of my favourite pieces of work are doodles and snapshots from her sketchbook like the images below.  There is something so moving about how she captures the world around us, I'm still figuring out how I can put this into words. I think the image below is one of my favourites of hers because of how she has sensitively captured the wild and organic landscape through mark making and shape.  Emma has an Instagram and Facebook page where she shares som

A weekly blog post celebrating the work of Falmouth University Students~ Stephanie Stubbs// I first came across the work of Stephanie last week when I was looking round the first year fine art studios. Her work has such a tactile quality about it and having this tangible quality means that the viewer is able to appreciate the material that has created the work. The fluidity of her work is calming and the colours reminiscent of water. Jess Russell// Images taken from a current exhibition on display at Woodlane Library, Falmouth Campus. Titled A History of Ideas, Jess has taken old library slips from books and created a new narrative by displaying them in the library. The idea that these slips capture a moment in time and are sometimes lost, found again by students amongst the pages of books is something that she has been able to capture and re-tell so an audience. It also captures the idea of how the library now uses a digital system to log books being taken out by studen

Artist Talks with Superfex//Claire Latchem

I came across the work of Superfex//Claire as she is the partner of Daniel Broadley, member of the Duo Meadowlark. Her illustrations and how she represents nature are incredibly creative. Her use of line and sense of narrative is why I love her work. I caught up with her to learn more about her process. You can visit her website  to see more of her lovely work.   1) Who would you say are your influences within your work? I try not to take too much inspiration from other artists but surround myself with super energetic, positive & productive people. They motivate me to work harder just by being themselves, which is pretty neat! My favourite art comes from the likes of people like McBess, Sandra Dieckmann, Longfox, Guy McKinley, Emma Carlisle, Jamfactory Ariele Alasko & Mr Millerchip to name a few. All super talented, all insanely productive. Other then that I’m inspired by being outdoors, animals, the wild, nature, landscapes, travel, solitude, plants and most
